Hello and welcome to my first blog post

Welcome to the launch of the brand new She’s Active website and my very first blog post! I say brand new, the website actually launched in August and so it just shows how long it's actually taken me to write my first blog post #mumlife

My name is Carlene, owner of She’s Active, women’s fitness specialist and personal trainer, I am so excited to share with you MORE of what She’s Active has to offer! I have so many ideas whirling around in my head.

I’m wife to Luke and mum of 2 girls, Robyn who is 8 and Nancy who is 5, so I completely understand the busy mum lifestyle. I’ve been through the sleepless nights and was the mum who’s baby always cried at baby groups, so I get it! I’ve struggled with my mental health (I still do occasionally), struggled with my body image and have also had (and recovered from) pelvic floor dysfunction. Because of all of this, I’m on a crusade to help mums recover both physically and mentally.

I’ve not always been a fitness instructor, I’ve actually got a biology degree and I worked in respiratory research after I graduated, where I used to analyse sputum (yep phlegm, gross!) and dissect lungs to help with research for asthma and COPD. I then moved into a scientific support role before moving into marketing where I used to travel the world. After having Robyn and with no family to help I had to find a new job, I had a few marketing roles but I didn’t enjoy any of them and I hated leaving Robyn so after I had Nancy (and I think possibly a mid life crisis!) I retrained as a fitness instructor.

While it's hard work at times I absolutely love what I do! I get to support ladies returning to fitness after having a baby, watch them get stronger both physically and mentally, see them develop friendships with other mums and the best bit, I get to play with and cuddle babies and watch them grow up. I still have some little ones who come along from my very first classes 4 years ago and I feel honoured to play a part both in your maternity leave and your little ones lives. Watching them join in with you or getting a picture of them exercising at home really is the best feeling ever, to know they will grow up knowing the importance of exercise is awesome!

Women's fitness will obviously be the main theme to the blog, from bump to baby and beyond (as per the tag line) but I also plan to share food ideas, activity's you can try with your little ones and an insight into my own life as a busy mum of 2 girls.

Writing has never been one of my strong points, I regularly get imposter syndrome so please do bear with me if you spot any typos. I’d also love to hear from you if you’d like to get in touch, share your advice with me or even do a guest blog!

I really hope I can inspire you just as much as you inspire me day in and day out and I look forward to helping you on your fitness journey.

Carlene xx
